The Maternal and Child Health service is universally offered to Victorian families with children up to the age of 6 through local and state government funding. In Port Phillip, we aim to promote a caring and friendly place for children to grow. The service forges links with families from the birth of each new baby. The maternal and child health nurses are midwives with further training. They make an initial visit at home, then invite the families to the centre, located within Poets Grove Family and Children’s Centre in Elwood.
Families can access information about child development and behaviour and talk about parenting issues as they arise. First time parents are invited to new parents’ groups and encouraged to continue to meet as playgroups. We aim to offer a friendly, accessible service to promote health and wellness reflecting the philosophy of the Port Phillip municipality in its child-centred focus.
Poets Grove’s maternal health service provides two nurses and operates from Monday to Friday.
The City of Port Phillip manages the administration for the maternal health nurses. Appointments can be made by phoning 9209 6766.
