Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services are delivered by City of Port Phillip, funded by Department of Health with Local Government for all families with children birth to school age.

Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Service

The Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Service is a free, universally accessible, statewide service for children birth to school age. This program provide development assessment, parental guidance, advice, referral, and social support.

It also provides a platform for identifying children and families who require further assessment, intervention, referral and brings families together to foster social networks and strengthens community connections though the flexible service capacity.

  • All families in the City of Port Philip with children from birth through to school age.

  • MCH service provides 10 Key Age and Stage consultations from birth to when a child is 3.5 yrs.

Child Health Outreach
Program

Maternal and Child Health Nurses offers key age stage consultations for children attending Poets Grove. These are available to the children but they are required to enrolled in City of Port Phillip MCH service.

  • 3.5 to 4 year olds who haven’t already had a Maternal and Child Health Nurse assessment

  • The key age stage check is done in your child’s room, supervised by our Education Team, all under parental consent. Parents and carers are welcome and encouraged to attend.

  • Your child’s growth, including height and weight (while clothed).

    Developmental assessment of speech, social, emotional, fine and gross motor skills.

    Eye sight screening using the MIST screening test.

    A follow up phone call or email to discuss the consultation outcomes.

Parenting Support

We understand parenting can be both challenging and rewarding. To support families throughout each stage of their parenting journey, we can connect you to professional guidance and advice.

  • Our in-house psychologist is available to emotionally support families, as well as facilitate referrals to child health services (including speech therapy, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, and counselling).

    This service is available to parents with children aged 0-6 years of age.

  • Our educators work closely with you during your child’s early developmental years to understand their needs. This ensures they have the best start and opportunities to reach their potential.

    If you have any concerns regarding your child’s development, please contact us, or reach out to their Lead Educator either face-to-face or by a direct message on our Storypark app.

  • Our child development team are able to help if your child is having any problems with:

    talking,

    walking,

    reading,

    keeping up with other kids,

    understanding how to do and learn new things,

    shyness or trouble playing with other kids, or

    any other issue which the children's relatives or educators are worried about.

    We have a member of the Child Development Team on site every Monday. The cost for families is means tested.
